InterLibrary Loan

How to reserve items through InterLibrary Loan.

About ILL

InterLibrary Loan, or ILL, allows Allen Memorial Library patrons to request and borrow books, articles, and other materials from thousands of participating libraries. Take advantage of this service to borrow anything you need or want that we don't own.

Simply request items from other libraries using your online library account. When your materials arrive, you will be notified by email. Then return the materials to AML by the due date just like any other library book!

Please note: We cannot get textbooks or eBooks via InterLibrary Loan at this time.

How to Request Interlibrary Loans

Request a Book or Article through Item Lookup

  1. Open the library catalog
  2. Pick the Item Lookup option at the top of the page
  3. Choose Article, Book, or Journal on the form
  4. Enter as much information as you can about the book or article you’re looking for.
    1. Make sure to check the spelling of author names and titles
    2. The ISBN, ISSN, or DOI is the most helpful piece of information. ISBNs are connected to books, while most journal articles from the last 25-30 years will have a DOI. Older articles may have an ISSN instead.
  5. Submit your form
  6. If you aren’t logged into the library catalog, click “sign in” under the “how to get it” section of the result page and enter your NDUS account info.
  7. Once you’re logged in, select “Resource Sharing” under the “How to get it” section.
  8. Double-check your email address, then click “Send Request” at the bottom of the form.

Request a Book or Article Using a Blank ILL Form

  1. Open the library catalog
  2. Click on the three dots on the top of the page.
  3. Pick the "Get Item from Elsewhere" option from the menu and sign in using your NDUS information.
  4. Choose Book or Article on the form, then enter as much information as possible about the item you want.
    1. The title and author are very important, make sure to check the spellings and punctuations.
    2. The ISBN, ISSN, or DOI is the other most important piece of information for any request. ISBNs are connected to books, while most journal articles from the last 25-30 years will have a DOI. Older articles may have an ISSN instead.
    3. The more information you give us in the form, the better luck we'll have finding what you need!
  5. Make sure your email address is correct, then hit "send request."

Request a Book or Article from a Database

Databases usually have a link connected to items that aren't included in the database. This link may be titled "Find Full Text" or "Get it @ VCSU," usually found where you click to read the full text.

  1. Find the link in your database result and click it.
  2. Sign in to your library account using your NDUS information by clicking on the "sign in" option under "How to get it."
  3. Click the "Resource Sharing" option that appears under "how to get it" to open the ILL form.
  4. Confirm that your email address is correct, then hit "Send Request" at the bottom of the form.
