Advanced Searching the Library Catalog

The library website and many databases have a function called advanced search that allows users to narrow down their search results before even running the search. The library website's advanced search function has multiple search bars as well as several dropdown menus to allow filtering by language, information type, and publication date. To use advanced search on the library website, follow these steps:

On the library home page, click on the link below the main search bar that says "advanced search"
Write in your first keyword or phrase. Phrases, search terms with more than one word, should have quotation marks around them, for example "search term"
If you have more than one search term, put each one in a separate search bar.
Use the dropdown menus on the right of the search bars to filter your results.
Click search

PubMed
PubMed comprises more than 26 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full-text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.

Health Source: Nursing Edition
Offers student researchers, allied health professionals, nurses, and medical educators access to peer-reviewed, full-text scholarly journals, as well as indices and abstracts covering a wide range of medical topics, including pediatric nursing, critical care, nursing ethics, mental health, nursing management, and more.
MEDLINE
Bibliographic database covering the fields of biomedical research and clinical sciences, including medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, allied health, and preclinical sciences.
PubMed Central (PMC)
Free archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM).

Medical Subject Headings (MESH) Information
MeSH is the National Library of Medicine's controlled vocabulary thesaurus. It consists of sets of terms naming descriptors in a hierarchical structure that permits searching at various levels of specificity.

ERIC (EBSCO)
Authoritative source providing indexed and full-text literature related to education. Offers access to hundreds of thousands of full-text documents from various sources, including journal articles, books, and policy papers. Researchers can refine their search results by education level (e.g., Early Childhood Education) and intended audience (e.g., Counselors or Teachers). It features an education-specific thesaurus containing over 11,800 terms.
ECOTOX
Provides single chemical toxicity information for aquatic and terrestrial life. ECOTOX is a useful tool for examining impacts of chemicals on the environment.

Covers thousands of open access journals covering all areas of science, technology, medicine, social science and humanities.
