Community Borrowers

Acquiring a Library Card

Residents living within the Valley City Community are eligible to apply for a free Community Library Card. Residents may apply for a Community Library Card at the Information Desk and must bring proof of residency or a photo ID. The card will be issued within 48 hours of completing an application. Community accounts expire every 2 years, and a community user must provide the Library with updated contact information to be eligible for an account renewal.

Community Card Policies

Community users may have no more than five books checked out at one time and may not check out items on reserve for coursework. For more information about loan periods and associated late fees, please visit the Library's policies page.

Due to licensing agreements and service contracts, community users are unable to use most of the Library's electronic resources off-campus. However, the electronic popular reading collection called Library on the Go is available for Community patrons from both on and off campus.

Printing, Copying, & Faxing

Community patrons can print black and white pages without charge, but they are asked to respect a print limit of ten pages per day. Color printing and fax services are also available for a fee. Please refer to the Library's Printing, Copying, and Faxing page for more information.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services are available to community borrowers. Please note that all requests will first be checked against the Library's holdings and those of the Valley City Barnes County Public Library for availability. Refer to the Library's Interlibrary Loan information page for more information.

Genealogical Research

Limited genealogical reference services are available. Please visit our Reference Services page for more information.
