Description: This course is designed to provide an opportunity for library students and school library media specialists to investigate, study, and discuss current or controversial issues in school librarianship. It is intended to cultivate a continuing interest in professional growth as well as promoting networking and exploration of issues affecting the school librarian.

Description: A course covering the basic principles of evaluation and selection of library materials; study and practice in the use of selection aids; and the development of policies about the collection.
LMIS 430: Administration of the School Library Media Center, (3 cr.) Face-to-Face June 4-15 from 8:00 am to 12:00 PM. Instructor Margaret Wieland
Description: A study of the objectives and functions of a school library media center and the principles of management. Consideration is given to teacher-librarian relationships and to current library issues.

LMIS 700 Teaching Information and Technology Skills: Big 6, (1 cr.) Face-to-Face on VCSU campus June 18 & 19. 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Instructor D. Schneider
Description: Big 6 is a process to help students get organized. The process will assist students and staff to use critical thinking skills when doing daily assignments and the research applications. The Big6 is an approach toward teaching information and technology skills in our world. The workshop will focus on usage in the K-12 classroom.
LMIS 700 Graphic Novels for Teens, (1 cr.) Face-to-Face on VCSU campus June 20 & 21, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Instructor D. James
Description: The goal of this course is to provide students with a knowledge and appreciation of graphic novels for teens including familiarity with new titles, reader advisory, and the principles of using and promoting use of this genre. Learners will read a graphic novel from a predefined list as well as read and discuss current research evaluating the value of graphic novels in a school library environment both in the United States and abroad.

Description: This course is being taught by professional reference librarians from the North Dakota State Library. In this course you will learn advanced searching techniques for the ODIN catalog, subscription online resources, and selected Internet resources that the reference staff at the State Library find useful. The online resources include magazine, newspaper, heatlh, and reference resources which are suitable for kindergarten through high school and beyond. Online resources covered include: Opposing Viewpoints, eLibrary, Health & Wellness Resource Center and Ancestry Library Edition.
